Community Service
The members of the supporting association are divided into active and sustaining members. Personal engagement is expected from active members for the traditional “temple services” and as helpers at concerts, theater performances and during the Moon Nights. In this context “temple service” has nothing to do with religious activities. Instead, it entails the provision of fresh coffee and cake during the weekend garden concerts that attract cultural lovers and passersby to the gardens of the Pfingstberg.
The idea of “temple service” developed from actual circumstances. When members of the association opened the Temple of Pomona on weekends following its restoration, they gave food that they had brought with them to visitors, but asked for a donation for the restoration of the Belvedere in return. Association members are always readily available to provide information and to answer questions during “temple service.” As a result, a tradition developed that continues to this day.
The coffee buffet is available in front of the Belvedere on Saturdays and Sundays from 3 pm - 6 pm (March to October), or in the entrance hall if it rains. It continues to be managed by association members.
Volunteers take over of the register on Moon Nights, offering wine and light snacks in the atmosphere of the fantastically illuminated Belvedere. Members also actively participate in the maintenance of the building and grounds. They are committed to gardening efforts, care for the lawns around the Belvedere and help with the organization of events. In short, they do everything they can to help preserve the Pfingstberg as an attractive destination for excursions and as a cultural location for both the residents of Potsdam and for visitors.
